Sleepover, The

The Sleepover is a marginal and marginally cute little kids’ adventure comedy from Netflix. I gave it a shot, not expecting much but getting a few more chuckles that I expected… but make no mistake, this is a low-effort and low ambition bit of fluff. I think the cast is doing their best in that exaggerated kids’ comedy kind of way.

The basic premise is about an average family… until the kids (and the hapless dad) discover that Mom had a secret life as an international jewel thief/bad-ass. Due to a viral YouTube video, her cover is blown and the kids must follow the clues and come to the rescue.

I can’t say I didn’t laugh and I can’t say I was bored… it’s a decent little watch for what it is. It is a kind of cheap, low budget kind of Disney Channel adjacent type show though. And it’s outshined by better flicks with similar themes… like Spy Kids. Or compare it to new films targeting the same audience but are much better… like Enola Holmes or even Vampires vs. The Bronx (both also from Netflix).

I think kids will really enjoy it so sit them down and let it babysit for awhile. Or put on a better flick.
