Checked out the new family drama/comedy This Is Where I Leave You… a movie whose closest relatives would probably be The Family Stone (which is a little better) and August:Osage Comedy (which is oh so much worse). It’s about four brothers and sisters whose father dies and they have to sit shiva which was their dad’s last request (and mom isn’t jewish and dad was an atheist but whatevs!). It’s about their interactions with each other as family, the next door neighbor, their various friends, wives, husbands, and significant others.
It’s a pretty good movie that never really excels but is always fairly interesting and funny in between believable drama. Great cast including Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, Jane Fonda, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, and more. Basically it’s a movie that you want to see for the cast and the acting. It’s not often laugh-out-loud funny but it’s not trying to be usually.
