Tinder Swindler, The

Not much into these true crime documentary series and movies that are all the rage. But I gave this one a shot because it’s just a single film and not spread out across six episodes… and because it’s not about the latest grisly murder.

Instead it’s about a real life piece of shit who hooked a bunch of women with some ridiculous storyline out of a movie. That they fell for and continued to fall for it and gave him their life savings. Because he put on a good show and flew them around the world…

And this story wound up online and on the news already… googling this dude would give you the full story. And now he’s the star of a Netflix doc. So hopefully – if everything in this story is true – he can just eat it.

It’s a good story as a doc and has some nice juicy revenge in the final twenty to thirty minutes. It is a little long otherwise as it covers how he conned two or three women who had the same story (and who were willing to tell their story). But I guess it’s length works to the advantage of the revenge.

I think this would make a great narrative film… perhaps better than the doc. But either way, it’s a good time on Netflix and I’m happy I didn’t have to give yet another 2022 movie a low score. That’s something.
