Bodies Bodies Bodies

Bodies Bodies Bodies is a dark horror comedy/slasher/murder mystery with a capable cast playing very unlikable characters who you wouldn’t mind seeing bodied. But since it’s a bit of a goof on Twitter/TikTok/Gen-Z-like dialog, a lot of the bickering becomes darkly amusing.

The flick is about a bunch of vapid twenty something “friends” who decide to ride out of a hurricane in a mansion while drunk and coked out of their minds. They decide to play a party game called Bodies Bodies Bodies (think: Werewolf) where one character is secretly the murderer and everyone has to socially deduct (read in: bicker, accuse, snipe) who it is. Predictably, the real bodies start to pile up and everyone is a suspect.

There’s possibly one likable person in the whole movie and I’m not sure if she’s likable so much as just quiet. Either way, the movie is about the kind of people you wouldn’t mind seeing die in a horror movie which can get a little old in some flicks. If that’s all it was, then it’d be insufferable but since all the vapid suffering and arguing is part of the social satire, it works and it’s decent fun.

Because, wow, if it wasn’t a decent satire and murder mystery, then watching a bunch of unlikable tools wander around a house in the dark bickering at each other would be insufferable.

I was amused by the reveal of how the murders went down and found the movie reasonably clever and a little wicked (or at least catty). It’s not always flashing it’s horror/comedy badge around either… if you weren’t in on the joke, then the constant online jargon clichés might come across as serious or genuine. But pretty sure this was the screenwriter and director poking fun at a generation.

It’s not my favorite A24 joint, but since it never quite takes itself seriously and is in and out in a a tight ninety minutes, it worked fairly well. I had a reasonably good time with this one.
