Book Club: The Next Chapter

The book club is thing you hit me with for going to see Book Club 2. I don’t even remember the original film and had to refer to my 2018 review to confirm, yeah, I saw it and thought it was fine. So I ran out of movies with good showtimes and went to see this sequel. The anticipation was oozing out of me.

Book Club 2 follows the four ladies – Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, and Candace Bergen reprising their roles – as they travel to Italy for a destination bachelorette party. No books are read.

Aaaand this movie has one joke. Old ladies be talking about sex a lot. Har! Because old ladies are randy and we don’t think of them that way. HAH! I’m dying here. Buuut to be fair, the gang of old ladies behind me in the theater were laughing at every single one of those jokes. Every. Single One. So what do I know?

Most of this film was pretty bland and rather boring. The final scene in the final act generated some warmth and good spirits at least. I’m not 100% of a heartless wretch. Just 84.5%.

As much as the past few Senior Ladies movies haven’t been my bag, I fully support their existence. I love these four ladies and love more that they are getting work and finding an audience.

So maybe just ignore me if you’ve liked previous films (and tv shows) like this. Just because it’s not for me and I only laughed once in the entire movie doesn’t mean you won’t. Or maybe it does. Who knows. This is all one big black hole for me, I guess.
