Double Walker

Double Walker is a new dreamlike supernatural film about a little girl who dies and comes back to haunt the living as a pale young woman. She may or may not have made a deal with mysterious figures who asked her if she would rather have one more day as a human or eternity as a ghost. She chose the later and now exists in some nebulous state between being visible and invisible to the living (the rules are unclear).

She ponders existence and her fate while also occasionally bloodily murdering the men who… may or may not be responsible for her death? Visited the house the day she died? Were child sex traffickers? The movie is also a little cryptic and unmoored from the time space continuum. Might not be for you if you demand concrete answers.

The movie this most reminds me of is A Ghost Story. That movie without the sheet and with more bloody murder. But kind of dealing with some of the same ideas of existence, mortality, and time. Also a bit of a slow burn… though due to its revenge angle, certainly more appealing perhaps to a mass audience. It’s also quite short – just barely squeaking past an hour – so it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Though you could also argue it needs more time to really nail down motivations and reasons. But, then again, I don’t think they had any particularly interest in making this a cohesive, linear story.

I rather liked this film and part of me wants to rate it a little higher. But I also think some of the segments in the middle didn’t do so much and I’m not sure it has all its storyline ducks in a row. But it might and it’s quite interesting if you like a dreamlike, ethereal feel (punctuated by gushing blood). Not bad.
