Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion? Again? Didn’t they try this recently? And, by recently, I mean 20 years ago? (jeepers… time is the crucible in which we burn) And last year with the Muppets? It’s a weird world when I come away from this terrible movie thinking the Eddie Murphy flick HAD to be better… and I hated it too. But maybe the one with Gonzo was okish?

Haunted Mansion takes inspiration from the ride at Disney. A woman moves into a New Orleans mansion only to find it very, very, very haunted. Into her orbit she brings a disgraced physicist, a fake medium, a dubious priest, and a Danny DeVito, Together they try to rid the place of all them ghosties.

Yeah, I really hated every minute of this unending movie. I didn’t find it funny at all and I most certainly didn’t find it scary (which nobody except small children would… and it’s not really trying to be scary anyway).

It’s got a very good cast with LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto. Winona Ryder makes a cameo appearance in a spooky horror comedy which should have been great. But its one of those movies where every single funny actor just can’t make the limp script work.

It’s poorly paced and has random detours including an unbearable one to a second spooky mansion that was just a waste of time. Half the cast doesn’t even need to be in the movie and barely bring anything to the table.

I really hated this movie. Maybe they can try again in another twenty years in their hope to land that Pirates of the Caribbean money. I doubt they’ll get there this time, either.
