Talk to Me (2022)

Talk to Me is a very good horror movie that breaks one of my personal cardinal rules of horror flicks. I like events that feel concrete and logical rather than random chaotic visions. Movies where the scares may or may not be happening don’t always connect with me.

Talk to Me… aka play stupid supernatural party games, win stupid supernatural party prizes. Just a suggestions, if you’re an Australian teen who goes to a party, maybe don’t grab the mysterious disembodied hand and invite ghosts into your body. Probably not going to end well for you.

And now we have ghosts out here haunting our lead and giving her visions and freakouts that may or may not be happening. And while that’s my personal bugaboo, I can’t deny the movie generates a very effective, very foreboding atmosphere. It’s creepy and eventually the spooks playing their reindeer games definitely started to work on me. Never trust an invading spirit… that’s my suggestions in case you ever find your body invaded by ghosts you invited in.

The ending of the flick left me flummoxed and I wanted to throw something salty at the screen. But the more I thought about, the more revelation hit. And kudos to a pretty dark and wicked conclusion (assuming I even know what in hell was going on).

For most people, this will probably work like gangbusters (ghostbusters?). For me, I couldn’t quite get all the way out of my own way… but I still came away admiring the mean little pluck of this bloody flick.
