Kissing Booth 2, The

Watched the new Netflix original teen romantic comedy The Kissing Booth 2. I saw the original and *gasp* might not have posted a review about it. Shame Shame, I know my name… but anyway, I thought it was a decent enough dopey little teen comedy without a thought in its head (but it didn’t really need one). I’d say I think the same about the new one… only more so since it’s stupid long.

Kissing Booth 2 follows the same moon-eyed teens from the first film… she’s in her senior year, the boy she chased in the previous movie off to college across the country. The film is an improbable 2 hrs. 20 minutes long so it’s about that long-distance relationship but its also about whether she can win the Dance Dance Mania (arcade dance machine) contest… and whether she can avoid the dreamy eyes of her dance partner. And its about her best friends and their relationships… and some random other students’ subplots.

The movie is just a lot of teenage drama and sappy comedy. It’s overly long, like maybe it should have been a season of tv instead of a movie. It’s not exactly what you would call “appointment television” or a “particularly good movie” but I found it perfectly dopey and mildly charming enough to watch (in about four sessions). I wasn’t bored but I wasn’t enraptured by any stretch. It’s a perfectly fine bit of acceptable teen romantic comedy programming… hardly top of the food chain but hardy the worst.

Probably too many words spilled about a movie most people aren’t going to want to see and certainly aren’t going to pay attention to my suggestion one way or the other. I guess if you liked (or, you know, even remember) the first flick or really like Joey King (the lead actress) it might be worth checking out… in micro-doses to make it go down better…. if not faster.
