Lake, The

The Lake is a Thai creature feature that has a terminal case of bad pacing. Editing and pacing alone sink this film’s chances of being a fun monster movie. It crawls and lingers too long on shots when it needs to crackle with thrills and excitement.

The creature itself is a pretty cool design and a mix of CGI and practical effects. Sometimes, unfortunately, they place the creature in scenes far too reminiscent of Jurassic Park and since the movie is such a sluggard, we linger with shots of a dinosaur-looking creature peering into a car for seemingly forever. Come on movie, pick up the pace! Jeesh.

Perhaps its not the film’s fault but the streaming service I watched this on only had an English dub. And it’s terrible… just terrible audio mixing, laughable voice acting, and dialog that’s either confusing or goes in circles, causing some sequences to make very little sense. Maybe that’s the fault of the movie… I don’t know since I couldn’t watch it in its original language.

I wish I could have enjoyed this mini-Kaiju film but I was so bored and so baffled by it instead. It’s too much of a turgid messy bore to give it any extra credit for a decent monster. And it certainly ain’t getting any credit for acting, editing, and pacing.
