Mother of the Bride is an inconsequential and rather uninspired Netflix rom-com that, to my mind, has one interesting thing in it: Brooke Shields. Not that I’ve been biding my time for her return, but it is nice to see a woman of a certain age get the lead in a rom-com.
The flick is about a daughter who gets engaged and has to spring the news to her workaholic scientist mother. They decide to do a destination wedding in Thailand… where the mother of the bride runs into an old flame.
I don’t technically think this movie does anything particularly wrong. Honestly, probably maybe if you have low demands for rom-coms, you might like it. But it did little to nothing for me, I didn’t laugh, nor did I see the appeal of the romantic will they/won’t they.
I guess it’s a little interesting that the mother of the bride is the main character in a wedding rom-com. But other than that, meh. Might as well not watch it?
