Spirit Untamed

Oddly enough, I’ve never seen the original Spirit (Stallion of the Cimarron) ) so it’s a little perplexing I bothered tromping to the cinemas to watch this kid’s film remake? Sequel? But I have an AMC Stubs card burning a hole in my pocket so I figured, why not? It was either this or Peter Rabbit 2… and neither sound like a surefire hit.

So Spirit Untamed is about a girl who moves out west and befriends a wild stallion (and a couple local girls and their horses too). She has to save the horse and his family from some no good horse thieves… and friendships are formed, etc.

Me criticizing this movie is kind of like yelling at cotton candy. It’s just so sickly sweet and ultimately empty to really bother with. It’s a kid’s movie that doesn’t try to appeal to old farts in any way. It tells a pretty formulaic “girl and her horse” film which has been done better.

Long story short: I was bored and distracted and got nothing but empty calories out of the flick… and like cotton candy, it’ll vanish completely upon consumption. But what do I expect? I’m hardly the target market… maybe ten-year-olds will think it’s the bee’s knees.
