Work It

Dance movies are not exactly in my wheelhouse; you tell me it’s good dancin’, I’ll take your word. So not sure why I randomly picked out this Netflix offering… but not really regretting having done so.

Work It is about the lighting tech for a high school dance group who gets kicked off the team, winds up misrepresenting her extracurriculars at a college interview, and has to, you know, learn how to dance in order to get into her school. Queue forming a team of misfits and weirdos, a bunch of training montages, and some cute romance razz-ma-tazz.

Did I enjoy it? Most of the time. I laughed at the light-hearted yuks, found some of the romantic dance sequences suitably romantic and dance-like, and generally rooted (to the extent you can root for such an obvious plot) for our dance group to win the big tournament. My life has not been changed but the flick was reasonably fun while it lasted.
