Zoolander 2

Finally somewhat reluctantly went to see Zoolander 2, the possibly unnecessary sequel to the 2001 original film. A film I thought was just ok, didn’t do well at the box office, but became a kind of cult hit over the years on video.

All those fans of the original seem to hate this one… which is fine, but I suspect the difference between the original and this one is time, maturity, and nostalgia goggles.

I think this is about as good as the original – which is to say, it has some chuckles and I smiled a bit but it’s largely just a lot of dumb, sometimes inside jokes about fashion and whatever. I can’t say I didn’t laugh but it’s largely not a very good movie.

There are a lot of cameos and I give the best one to Kiefer Sutherland playing himself as Jack Bauer playing one part of Hansel’s orgy family. Credit to Kiefer for keeping a straight face.

But, yeah, that’s about it. The movie isn’t particularly good but it’s not an abomination and it’s probably a little bit as good as the first. I could be wrong about my nostalgia goggles theory since I wasn’t a big fan of that first one. Anyhow. Moving on.
