Black and Blue

And, finally, checked out the theatrical film Black and Blue. This is a cop thriller about a female police officer who witnesses dirty cops execute drug dealers while she’s wearing a body cam. The corrupt cops want that body cam… she wants a just and sane world. A race to get the evidence deleted or uploaded ensues.

Not a bad suspenseful action movie starring a black female lead (doesn’t happen often!). The film is pretty much just a pot boiler drama about cops, crooks, and crooked cops… there’s gun fights, encounters with gangs, and a very angry Frank Grillo as the head cop goon. But it’s reasonably entertaining even if it feels a bit like a 90s throw back. But you add in a little – a smidge – of social commentary about cops and the community and you have a little more to say than just bang, bang shoot ’em up.

I kind of recommend this movie on a pretty low key level. Nothing to run out to see but certainly worth a watch if you catch it on Netflix or HBO. A moderately surprise success.. certainly something you’ll like if you like suspenseful cops and crooks movies.
