Justice Society: World War II

Justice Society is another ambitious DC animated film that suffers a bit from their usual low-effort, low-ambition art style and animation. Maybe it’s a hair better in this one but someday they should spring for some better art and more elaborate animation. On the other hand, they’ve made enough of these, I’m sure the bean-counters have found the sweet spot of profitability and don’t appreciate the heckling from the peanut gallery. Sigh.

So Justice Society involves Flash doing a whoopsie (again) by running so fast that he travels back in time to WW2. There he encounters Wonder Woman, the OG Flash, and a few other heroes who have formed The Justice Society. But Flash has never heard of a team of superheroes… no Society, No League in his future. Together, they fight Nazis and a few surprise villains.

I kind of liked the setup of this film and where it looked like it was going. But it has a strange habit of introducing things that are either dropped or forgotten (like an intro with FDR). And there’s a nice twist that introduces new villains so it kind of like it isn’t even about WW2 after awhile. The very premise of the movie is squandered.

But, hey, it’s decent. I just got distracted and a little bored in the final act when it all comes down to the punches and explosions. It’s not a terrible movie at all and certainly DC fans will get more out of these Golden Age depictions of heroes.
