Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The

Good looking and very bad movie. Not much of a remake – which is fine since why bother remaking the exact film – but they missed what made the first movie effective – and almost unwatchable. Paranoia and claustrophobia – the inability to GET AWAY from this bunch of creeps. This movie has our heroes going to the house, returning from the house, going to the house, running from the house, returning to the house, back and forth and back and forth. In the first flick, when the final girl actually makes it to the main road, it was a major achievement and actually was one of the few moments where you could breath whatever sigh of relief you could.

R. Lee Ermey as the crazy sheriff – I couldn’t stop thinking of him from the History Channel’s Mail Call show – where he plays the same basic guy he was in Full Metal Jacket which is the same basic guy he appears to be… Oh well.

But, in the long run, I was not scared and only marginally repulsed – I’ve seen far gorier and far more explicit films. I do give them credit for making the movie look good and for keeping the baddies off screen or in shadow…
