That’s Amor

That’s Amor is a new Netflix romantic comedy about a recently single (and unemployed) woman who takes a cooking class and catches the idea of the Spanish cooking instructor. That’s kind of literally it. There isn’t a gimmick, nobody is lying, and there’s no third act reveal where feelings are hurt but all it would take is a single sentence to clear things up.

There are some clingy exes so its not like the movie is without a little drama… but I found this cute and refreshingly clear of all the bog standard clichés (except for a third act race-to-the-airport scene). It’s inoffensive and sweet.

The two moon-eyed lovebirds are appealing, especially Riley Dandy who has a sprinkling of Scarlet Johansen about her.

I doubt this will move the needle for jaded cynics who hate all things Netflix, romance, rom-com, and especially romantic Netflix rom-coms. I’m sometimes in that camp but this movie is just good natured and easy to watch for all of 90 minutes. It’s hard to hate.
