Dukes of Hazzard, The

The Dukes of Hazzard movie was a pretty average-to-less-so movie. Some bad editing and pacing which made some things make very little sense. But I guess I’m not looking for massive logic in this movie so I guess I can live with some of it. I guess. It’s a remake of a dopy 1970s tv show that wasn’t striving to be high art on a good day. I didn’t laugh much and it did some amusing self-mockery targeting the show that was occasionally cute.

The movie turns out to be a bit of an origin story. When it picks up, clearly Boss Hogg and the Duke Boys have had some run ins already but the General Lee only had a 01 on the door – the doors weren’t welded shut, “General Lee” wasn’t above the doors, the horn, and the Confederate flag wasn’t on the roof. Cooter makes all those changes when the car gets trashed early in the movie… Which means the movie gets to have its cake and eat it too. Cooter was a Civil War re-enactor who was always unhappy his side always loses… read in: he plays the Confederate side – so he adds the flag without the Duke boys know it (giving them an excuse or deniability).

Generally, the movie is fairly amusing and totally slight. It doesn’t hate its origin show but it realizes it has some questionable material and it has fun mocking it (with good humor). I’m not sure people who never saw the show would care one way or another about it.

Moving on.
